A Week of Real Outfits Featuring the Perfect Fall Henley

A Week of Real Outfits Featuring the Perfect Fall Henley

If you follow me on Instagram, then you will probably figure out with this post that I shoot these outfit photos a few weeks in advance of when they get posted.

Currently, I’m actually participating in the Fall 10×10 challenge hosted by Lee of Style Bee and Caroline of UnFancy so over the last 10 days that’s what I’ve been wearing. 🙂

And if you’re hoping for a post on the 10×10, don’t worry! I’ll be sharing a final thoughts post once I’m done. In the mean time you can check out my 10×10 posts from last fall here and here.

SO yes, these are from a few weeks ago, but I shoot them in advance so I have plenty of time to get these posts up for you… they take quite a bit of time actually.  Don’t mind though cause they’re fun!

That was a bit of a ramble, but if you’re looking for clear, concise blog posts that get to the point you’ve come to the wrong place!

We all have our specialties, and rambling is mine.

See? More rambling!

Okay I’m done.

Sometimes my fingers get a bit sassy when I’m typing, and they type out things before I have a chance to stop them.

I realize I could hit delete, but what’s the fun in that…

Let’s get to the outfits shall we?

:: Outfit formula: sweatshirt and jeans

:: Where I wore it: preschool drop off and grocery run

:: Outfit thoughts: You’re going to be seeing a lot of these Tradland’s sweatshirts. Unfortunately, they’re sold out in most sizes (hoping for a restock soon!), but they really, truly are the best sweatshirts. There is something just SO flattering about the cut of them that makes them uber flattering, while still being a sweatshirt. I love this outfit because it’s simple. I like the book end affect with the cream on top and on bottom, but then the contrast of the dark denim gives it interest. I’ve really been loving cream and dark denim for fall.

:: Outfit formula: henley and trousers

:: Where I wore it: library story time

:: Outfit thoughts: I mentioned above that I’ve been loving cream and dark denim, but I’ve also really been loving it paired with cognac. There’s just something about the combo of light and dark. It’s almost like color blocking, but with neutrals. I’m digging it. I’ve also really enjoyed pairing structured, smart pieces with tennis shoes. It’s a combo that feels very “me.” This henley is so nice you guys! Just like the sweatshirts, it’s cut in such a flattering way… and the material is so soft! It’s perfect for layering, and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of it this season.

:: Outfit formula: sweatshirt over dress + a cute baby

:: Where I wore it: a day at home

:: Outfit thoughts: I’ve started reserving Wednesdays as a day to stay home all day and get things done. So I set the girls up with craft projects or games that capture their attention and then I do laundry or chores. I kept feeling like I had to be engaged with them 100% of the time that they were awake, but then I felt like nothing was ever getting done. So now I’m giving up some of that pressure, and choosing intentional times to let them play on their own while I clean. SO I decided to keep my outfit simple and comfortable with a sweatshirt over my fave linen dress. I didn’t even put on shoes. 🙂 For casual days I enjoy wearing dresses because they’re less restricting than pants, and the addition of the sweatshirt adds cozy warmth.

:: Outfit formula: sweater and jeans

:: Where I wore it: pumpkin patch

:: Outfit thoughts: these jeans definitely had to go in the wash after our trip to the pumpkin patch. Does anyone outside of the midwest know what a corn pit is? If not, it’s basically a huge pit filled with corn kernals that kids can run around in and dig through. It’s a nightmare. The particular pit we visited had a large slide in the middle with hay bales leading up to it. Well… Kit got pushed off the top by a kid who seemed to have made pushing other kids his job. By the time I waded over to Kit (hence the need to wash these jeans), he’d already taken out three other kids. So yes. Dirty work. But you know what? This is why I fill my wardrobe with non fussy clothing that washes well. Both of these clothes do just that. And in case your wondering I did take the shoes off before destroying them in the pit.

:: Outfit formula: all black with a pop of cognac

:: Where I wore it: dinner with my best friend

:: Outfit thoughts: I’ve really been enjoying all black with cognac shoes. There’s something very chic about it, but the brown gives it just a touch of softness. This outfit was perfect for dinner as it was girl’s night, but it was a casual restaurant. I haven’t had a lot of chances to wear this sweater so I was happy to get a reason to. It’s super cozy and comfy, but the black color makes it look a bit more sharp. Also… yay for girl’s night!

I haven’t dipped my toes in 10×10 yet, though enough of my blog feed does, that I’m sure I will at some point! I am really working my way through my fall/winter wardrobe as thoughtfully as possible, while also trying to get back into a regular (4 days/week) workout routine to reach a more stable set-point for my weight as I wrap up nursing (sometime before spring? Maybe? Sure? Yes? She’s 18 months old and I’m ready and she’s getting there). I enjoy seeing others’ posts and have really enjoyed the “10×10 Representation Matters” hashtag, too.

I really like those cognac WLCs from Everlane! I have bone and black, but that color is yummy. I think I’d be inclined to try the utility crop or maybe the straight leg in that color rather than add to the particular WLC silhouette, though? I love that (since I ordered my pants) there are more “short” offerings, though. My inseam is only 28 or 28.5, so 27.5″ is nearly full length on me, but I’m struggling to commit to altering the pants and making them even shorter…

It’s a fun challenge! If nothing else because it’s fun to connect with people over it. I just picked up a pair of the straight leg version in black and I really like them!

Hi Karin! These outfits are wonderful.
Would you be willing to share your sizing on the Henley? Not sure if I should go XS or XXS, I like the look of the fit you have with yours. Also the everlane WLC… How tall are you! Sorry if you’ve answered these questions before! New to your blog! TIA!

    best,
    A

Thank you! I would go with the XS. I typically go between XS and S and I went for the bigger size only because I’ve noticed Tradland’s clothes do shrink a tiny bit in the wash. I’m 5’5″. No worries! Happy to help!
