A couple of weeks ago a good friend and I took our daughters to the Minneapolis Institute of Art. It was so very refreshing to walk around and see the artwork, to be in a place of culture, to watch the other patron’s who had come for the very same reason.

But I had a realization when I was there.

I realized that it had been awhile since I had intentionally surrounded myself with things that I am inspired by…

and that it is so easy to get caught up in the mundane moments in life that we forget to seek out the things that send a tingle down our spine. But oh! is it worth it.

I was so refreshed by that visit that for Valentine’s Day, David and I went back. And it just reaffirmed it for me all over again. I need moments, places, things in my life that inspire me.

But so often, the things that inspire us are hard to prioritize because… life.

But in those stolen moments in the art museum, I realized that it’s worth the effort. It’s worth fighting for. I came away from those moments feeling a new excitement that hadn’t been there before.  It was SO worth it.

What inspires you?

Until next time,

Speaking of being inspired… I decided it was time to do a refresh on my site. I think this new look is so much more my style… light, bright, and a little feminine. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

What a great idea! It’s been forever since I’ve been in a museum and I used to love it. Pre-baby I would often visit my favorite museums, even if it was just for an hour or two. Art is such an invigorating contrast to the busy-ness of life and work.

It’s the best place to go with a baby! It’s so fun to look at all of the artwork and start to introduce her to it. 🙂

Love the site redesign! I hear you on the need to seek out inspiration daily, in whatever form that takes for each of us. I have two young girls (they’ll turn four and two in May, respectively) and when my oldest was born, my husband and I sprung for a family membership to the MFA in Boston, where we live. We go there all. the. time. with the girls, and even though they’re not quite old enough to participate in the kid-related activities the MFA has, it’s already a “normal” thing for them to be surrounded by visually interesting and inspiring works. At the beginning we just wanted to be able to continue to do the things that we loved with our baby in tow, but over time it’s become something very special for all four of us 🙂

Thank you Heather! I so agree with you! I love surrounding her by art at an early age. We’ve started going there pretty regularly and they have the best play area so it’s the perfect activity for us!

The blog looks lovely…all the things you are going for you have achieved! And I have to do the same…remember to find and surround with inspiration. My girls are older (16 & 18) and the three of us took a trip to the EMP in Seattle last week to see the Hello Kitty exhibit! We all felt young again! I try and remember to take them to museums, shows, stores even that will be interesting. And though they don’t alway show appreciation when we are there, we all feel the impact at some point.

Thank you Tammy! So fun! My daughter would love a Hello Kitty exhibit! It’s hard sometimes to be creative with activities as a stay at home mom, but I think it’s so worth it!

You look fabulous, the layout looks fabulous, and I’m really digging the pictures! I’m a huge fan of museums of all kinds, but I’ve never been the Minneapolis Institute of Art! Adding it to my list.

For me, inspiration comes from walks in the woods or a drive in the country. When I look at things that seem peaceful, it usually sparks an idea. I’ve actually not been to an arm museum, so I am not sure if I would find it inspiring or not.

Love your new look! And YES to making time for inspiration. For me, it’s connecting with friends over coffee, spending time outside at our farm, and listening to all kinds of podcasts.

Beautiful pictures! I haven’t been to an art museum in awhile myself. One of my favorites has been the National Gallery of Art in D.C. And I love the blog design, it looks wonderful!

There is a great museum (Nelson Atkins Art Museum) about an hour from where I am in MO. I always find myself so calm and relaxed when I go to museums… it’s so refreshing!

I love your new layout! And I love your thoughts in this post. I went to this museum at the end of 2015 to see the Delacroix exhibit and realized that I need to get there more often. I had the experience when I took a class at The Loft this month, so I’ve been planning to write about some thoughts I have about that for Monday’s post. I’m going to share a link to this post when I do. 🙂

Love the new design! I know what you mean with our mundane lives. I am like that when I am local and quite to opposite when I am traveling. Reality is, where you live is just as interesting!

Thanks Madelaine! I know exactly what you mean! It’s easy to find inspiration elsewhere, but it’s a lot harder to find it where we’re “comfortable.”

Do you have any idea when Boeing will make a statement about the schedule of repair for the 787 wing condition? There will be an Earnings Conference on July 22 and I am sure it will come up. They may want to say something before the Conference to avoid too many questions.
